Cancer
A word nobody ever wants to hear from their doctor.
Further, it's a word nobody wants to hear from anyone else involved in the ministration of healthcare, and certainly never from loved ones. Nobody wants to think about malignant cells disseminating throughout their body, and the impact it's going to have on many (if not all) aspects of their life, as well as their loved ones` lives. .
Scientists, doctors, and others involved in the ministration of healthcare also don't enjoy this thought. So, those involved in the ministration of healthcare have been observing and studying cancer as far back as 3,000 BC. Here, various types of cancers were observed among fossils and Egyptian mummies. Further, cancer was also described on the Edwin Smith Egyptian papyrus (although the term “cancer” wasn't coined until after the fifth century). There is also evidence of immunotherapy (using the immune system to fight disease) being used as far back as the third century BCE, during China's Qin dynasty.
